When I faced a personal crossroads, bamboo taught me valuable lessons and provided new perspective. Initially it was treasured for the shade it gracefully shared, but too much of any one thing can lead good qualities to become maladaptive. As the roots spouted through beyond the surface boundary previously applied, and time and contemplation filled my mind, it led to the most challenging excavation of my life. As I researched, fought, labored, exhausted all of my tools new and old, I found myself reliving Kung Fu Panda and Karate Kid lessons both with laughter and exasperation. I learned my own lessons about maintaining firm, deeply rooted boundaries, appreciating unplanned gifts and cultivating new growth in the direction desired.
